Cornish film company – exciting new ventures – Fionn’s Blog

The great thing about being a Cornish film company is the astonishing variety of work that we get. Though based here in the far south west of England, we get work internationally. And this is very much thanks to our great friend Eddie Rourke of Embassy Media.

Because Eddie has developed a niche producing documentaries for the authorities such as FIFA European Athletics and the International Olympics Committee  about major international sporting events.

Rwanda

My first venture into this world was filming the FIFA Congress 2023 in Rwanda. Every year the 211 members meet at a different international destination to discuss and plan the coming year’s world football.

Jakarta – U17’s World Cup

At the end of last year we traveled to Indonesia for the FIFA u17’s World Cup. Eddie directed the review film for the whole Tournament. There were three teams of camera operators based in different cities, all coordinated from our base in Jakarata. The film was edited throughout the tournament and finished a matter of hours after the final. It was incredibly intense but amazingly rewarding.

Newcastle 

It has been great to get the step into a whole new work of sport. Eddie and myself have been to some excellent matches here in the UK. 

A highlight was filming at St James Park for Newcastle United’s first Champions League home match in 20 years against Paris St Germain. An amazing game and incredible atmosphere with Newcastle beating Paris 4-1. We were filming ‘Sponsor Activation’ with the mascots for the match for UEFA as well as match coverage for another agency who produce films covering the matches.

Liverpool

Another Sponsor Activation we did recently was at the iconic Anfield stadium in Liverpool. They were playing Sparta Praha in the Europa League. We also covered a private stadium tour for the sponsors who were Hankook tyres. Once again we did match coverage for another agency.The game was a goal fest, with the final score 5-1 to Liverpool.

It was an amazing atmosphere with a full stadium and all the fans trying to outdo each other with drums and singing.

The most intense part of the Activations is taking the footage that we have shot pre match and editing quick ‘comps’ (compilations) of the footage and uploading them to a server for the Sponsors to use as soon as possible. There is a quick juggle of cards and cameras as myself and Eddie swap it all around. Eddie settles down for match coverage and I take the media to edit the comps and get them sent.

Bangkok

So on to the next – the 2024 FIFA Congress, this year held in Bangkok. Watch this space!
