In the trade, a Director of Photography is known as a “DoP”. We receive many requests to provide a Director of Photography in Cornwall.
What does a Director of Photography do?
Directors of Photography are responsible for the photographic heart of a production.
They read the screenplay and work closely with the client to discuss the look and feel of a film. They then research how to create the look through lighting, framing and camera movement and what they will need in terms of kit and crew to achieve this.
On each day of filming, DoPs and their camera crews arrive early to set up and prepare. It’s the job of the DoP to make sure every shot is usable and flag them when they’re not. On smaller productions they shoot as well.
Does Crow Creative have a DoP?
Yes we most certainly do. Fionn Crow. With almost 25 years in the business, Fionn is highly respected. And extremely skilled and capable. From documentaries screened on worldwide television – many award winning, and one put forward for an EMMY. To every type of corporate filming – check other entries on our blog.
Who needs a Director of Photography in Cornwall?
Many people. Recently Fionn has worked as DoP for the Press Association in connection with G7. For an advert for national television. And for Transport for London. Production companies from outside the area are often looking for a Director of Photography in Cornwall. Because local knowledge, locally sourced kit and crew, and on the spot availability all make their work so much easier. And more economical – imagine the cost of bringing a film crew from “up country”. Travel time and expenses; accommodation; overnight allowances. And once you have them here at great expense the weather turns and you can’t film…
And with the additional bonus of holding a CAA drone licence, Fionn is the all round DoP available for work in Cornwall.
