Cornwall technology filming projects

These Cornwall technology filming projects were probably our most challenging filming projects to date. We’d already filmed the Virgin Orbit Launch from Newquay. Now another tech filming challenge.

Southampton based Windracers have developed a unmanned aircraft  capable of carrying payloads of 100 kilos up to a thousand kilometres. And we were filming because they were testing their fire fighting capabilities in Cornwall.

Windracers Unmanned Aircraft

Using unmanned aircraft for firefighting

The idea is using swarms of unmanned  twin-engined aircraft with a large water-carrying capacity to prevent wildfires from spreading. Filming aircraft from a drone was a real challenge, but the clients were delighted with the results. The BBC even did a news feature about the test flights.

This wasn’t our first challenging drone filming assignment.  Because we had done a similar job for Falmouth Harbour Commissioners experimenting with flying drones between ships to shore.

Using unmanned aircraft for delivering cargoes

So pleased were the clients with Fionn’s work that they commissioned him to film another event, this time in Orkney. Deploying the aircraft was this time for a very different purpose. Because the idea is to use them for delivering cargo between remote Scottish islands. So at a community event the team demonstrated to the local islanders the benefits of this new technology. z

We thoroughly enjoy these challenging  filming projects. Plus Windracers are great people to work with. And it’s thrilling to be filming the cutting edge of unmanned aircraft technology. What seems astonishingly ambitious today will be commonplace in the near future. Hoping for more Cornwall technology filming projects soon…
